Wiggle Song: Wiggle Song
Hello Song: Let's All Go to Storytime
Story: Tap the Magic Tree by Christie Matheson
A cute interactive book along the lines of Mix is Up! I had the kids practice "pointing" (in lieu of tapping) and then every time we turned the page I asked what had happened and added in questions about numbers, colors, and season. One girl even threw out the vocabulary word "foliage" for the fall pages (wow!).
Scarf Song: Little Raindrops sung to "London Bridge is Falling Down")
To connect with our tree story, we had a small discussion about what trees need to grow, leading to out rain song!
Little raindrops falling down, falling down, falling down
Little raindrops falling down, falling to the ground
Giant trees sprouting high, sprouting high, sprouting high
Giant trees sprouting high Up to the sky!
Scarf Song: Magic Scarf (sung to "Where is Thumbkin?")
Magic scarf, magic scarf
In the air, in the air.
I can make my scarf, I can make my scarf.
Disappear! Disappear! (hide behind back)
Repeat a few times, prompting kids to hide the scarf behind different body parts for each rendition (back, head, knees, etc.)
Story: The Magic Hat by Mem Fox
Not as successful as it has been before. I think the rhymes are not simple enough for the kids to easily guess, nor are the visual clues something they could pick up (baboon, kangaroo, etc.). They still enjoyed identifying the animals when I turned the page, though!
Guessing Game: Magic Hat
I pulled out my "magic hat" (really a bag, but I told the kids I accidentally turned it into a bag with too much magic) and that together we would pull a rabbit out of it! We sang our song, but for the first few times, it was not a rabbit. I had them identify the animal (sheep, lion, etc.) and then we made the animal sound together. They loved clapping the rhyme with me.
Magic hat, magic hat.
Let's pull a rabbit out of magic hat. (pulls out animal other than rabbit)
Ah! What's that?
Closing Song: Tickle the Clouds
Craft: Magic wands
Star cut-outs glued to Popsicle sticks. Provide markers, ribbon, and let them at it!
